Why we exist

Choosing a country to live in affects your income, your taxes, your healthcare and your family’s daily life, yet the information you need is scattered across government websites in different languages, expensive consultants, and forum threads of uncertain age. We started Country Desire in 2024 to put the essentials in one place and make them comparable.

Our tools let you compare two countries side by side, estimate take-home pay after income tax, see typical monthly costs, and plan a realistic budget. Our country guides explain the main visa and residency routes, how healthcare works for newcomers, and the practical pros and cons of each place, with links to the official sources so you can verify everything yourself.

The Country Desire editorial team researches cost of living, tax and immigration information for people planning a move abroad. Every guide is checked against official government sources and international datasets (OECD, World Bank, PwC Worldwide Tax Summaries, Numbeo) before publication, dated, and corrected when readers report changes.

How we research

Our methodology page explains where every figure comes from, how our calculators and rankings work, and the limits of the data.

1. Start with primary sources. Visa rules come from each country’s immigration authority and tax rules from its tax authority. Every country guide links to those official sites.
2. Cross-check with international datasets. We compare figures with the OECD Tax Database, PwC Worldwide Tax Summaries, World Bank Open Data, ILOSTAT and Numbeo (crowdsourced prices).
3. Convert and simplify carefully. Costs and salaries are shown in US dollars at recent exchange rates. Tax brackets are simplified for comparison; our calculators do not include every deduction, credit or local tax.
4. Date everything. Articles show their publication date, and country guides show when they were last reviewed.

Editorial standards

• We write for readers, not search engines, and we don’t publish articles unrelated to living, working or travelling abroad.
• News-based articles cite their sources, including the author where the original article names one.
• We publish on a steady schedule rather than in bulk, so each article gets proper research and review.
• We do not accept payment for coverage, rankings or links. Advertisers have no say in what we publish.
• We clearly separate facts from opinion, and we don’t present estimates as exact figures.

Corrections policy

Rules and prices change. If you spot something wrong or out of date, email hello@countrydesire.com or use our contact page with the page address and, ideally, an official source. We review every report, correct confirmed errors promptly, and update the page’s date when we make a substantive change.

How we are funded

Country Desire is free to use and has no paywall or sign-up. The site is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. Ads are labelled and kept separate from our content, and they never influence our data, rankings or recommendations.
